This category is for any person, who for the first time, is requiring a Competency certificate in terms of the relevant legislation and/or firearm licence for private use i.e. self defence.

Training required in this category is:

o SAQA Unit standard 1177705: Demonstrate knowledge of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000 (compulsory) and 1 or more of the following SAQA registered Unit Standards applicable to the individual’s private purpose.

o SAQA Unit standard ID 119649: Handle and use Handgun

o SAQA Unit standard ID 119652: Handle and use Shotgun

o SAQA Unit standard ID 119650: Handle and use self-loading Rifle or Carbine

o SAQA Unit standard ID 119651: Handle and use manually operated Rifle or Carbine

Entry Requirement: Communication at NQF Level 2

HEALTH & SAFETY STUDIES ACCREDITED COURSES

The purpose of the skills programme is to build the capacity of a person to work and function as a Basic First aid Provider.

Basic first aid providers respond to emergency situations to provide efficient and immediate basic medical care to ill and injured persons during emergencies. They use a limited range of equipment and operate within common and uncommon situations providing a basic first aid care service that falls within a strictly regulated scope of work as defined by various regulatory requirements. Incumbents are also expected to continually remain updated on approved new practices and techniques.
